Life is Like a Wheel

Life is like a wheel. Everyone will agree. From day to day there are different encounters. Different events. Different places. Different people. All are riding in the wheel of life.

I am watching Raul Gonzales right now. He is saying that he would go for the Mayor position in Ilo-ilo city. He said that he does not expect to stay in the cabinet when the President is already out. He said that he is sure that he would win.

Raul Gonzales is already old. As a matter of fact, he already went under the knife. He had a kidney transplant. However, he is alive and strong. Very articulate and full of passion. He said that whatever left in his life, he would spend it in serving his city.

This the showbiz talk show that I used to watch long time ago! Nadia Montenegro is the guest in The Buzz right now! She lambasted on Cristy Fermin and poured her heart out. She even mentioned that she lost a friend seven months ago because of Cristy Fermin’s lies!

Nadia is invited because of the Gabby issue. Now, Nadia is clearing things out. She said that he hands are clean, she is just a friend of Gabby.

Why I am watching this? I am being entertained! And, yes, I am about the same age as Nadia. Meaning, she is one of those popular actresses during our time. She almost reached the top until she said yes to become the wife of a local politician here. But really, Nadia is one of the prettiest faces here! She gained weight but her face is still beautiful.

I love Betty La Fea

Wheel on September-7-08

This is the Betty La Fea version that I was able to fully watched. It was shown here in the Philippines more than a decade ago. Its time slot was not even during prime time and no one noticed this show. But, I had fun watching it. The typical nerdy but pretty lady. Another Cinderella inspired story.

Because of the popularity of Ugly Betty in US, that could be the reason why Philippines, specifically ABSCBN took the plunge and bought its very expensive franchise. If the world has it, then ABS should have it? Wow, that line would be a nice tag line, would you agree?

After so many speculations on who would be the Philippines’ Betty La Fea- names like Ann Curtis and Regine Velasquez came out, it is Bea Alonzo who is blessed with the role. The show has the title I Love Betty La Fea. I think that Bea will give justice to the role. Based on the previews, they are to follow the original version as to the looks of Betty and total story line. My friend who is a follower of Ugly Betty in US was asking if ABS CBN’s version will also flourished into one series after another.I guess that will depend on the first season. Well, with John Lloyd as Armando Jose, I guess people will really watch this show. To add, there are other artists who would really entertain you.

The picture is the original Betty La Fea and our very own Bea Alonzo as Betty.

Pahiyas

Wheel on May-15-08

I miss Pahiyas. It is the feast being held every 15th of May supposedly to thank the patron saint of farmers who is San Isidro Labrador. There are many towns in Quezon, Philippines that hold Pahiyas but it is Lucban, Quezon that is most famous for it. That day is actually considered as one of the tourist attractions in the Philippines. Houses are decorated with fruit harvests, vegetables, rice and the well-known Kiping. It has been more than a decade since I have been there. I hope to go back soon to that place where my formation years were spent.

Peso Devaluation?

Wheel on February-27-08

The value of Peso they say had increased since conversion of one dollar had gone down to P39.72 as I tried to transfer to a bank my remaining funds. Is this good news or a bad news? For economists, they say that Philippine economy is improving because of this but is it really?

Before, the reason that we usually hear for price increase of basic and non- basic commodities is because the conversion to one dollar is high- “tumaas na naman ang dollar!” . What about now? Ever week, the price tag of my son’s milk keeps on increasing!

A dollar’s exchange rate went as high as 55-60 to a Peso. Then it became P50 for the longest time until it dropped down to P40. To covert $100 to a Peso that will be P5000 before and to P 4000 now. Where is the P 1000? That could have been a week’s grocery or two week’s milk supply for my kid!

Tell me, what are the good effects of this? Couldn’t it be that the P1000 just went to some one else’s pocket?
